IV. Large volume press specifications
The LVP
-- 6 independently-controlled rams with laser positioning accuracy of 0.1 micron-- 15 MN maximum load (5 MN per pair of rams)
-- Primary anvils of hardened tool steel (60 mm truncation)
-- 5-axis stage (X, Y1, Z, for translation, phiZ for rotation/oscillation, Y2 for phiZ alignment to the beam)
Different modes of compression
-- 6-8 'Kawai' compression geometry using eight 32 mm or 27 mm cubic WC anvils
-- 6-6 'cubic' compression geometry using six cylindrical WC anvils
High-pressure deformation in 6-6 geometry
-- Axisymmetric triaxial testing
-- 'True' triaxial testing (operating 2 pairs of independently moving rams)
-- Deformation in compression and in tension
Sample environment
-- 300 K - 2400 K (DC-heating with 10 kW power supply)
-- 1 GPa - 24 GPa (development ongoing to reach even higher pressures)
-- Short (0.5-2 h) and long-duration (2-8 h) experiments
